UK-based stem cell therapy firm ReNeuron has appointed Olav Hellebø to be its new chief executive.

Since starting his pharma career in 1992 at Schering-Plough, Hellebø (pictured) has held a number of senior commercial roles in Europe and the US.

He joins ReNeuron in Guildford from the Norwegian oncology-focussed biotech Clavis Pharma, where he also served as chief executive. Prior to Clavis he led a global biologics unit at UCB Pharma, and was also a head of the UK commercial operations at Novartis.

As announced in April this year Michael Hunt, who has held the position of chief executive at ReNeuron since 2005, will now sit on its board as chief financial officer.

Bryan Morton, chairman of ReNeuron, says: “I am delighted to welcome Olav Hellebø to the role of chief executive. His breadth of experience in healthcare and in the commercialisation of pharmaceuticals will be invaluable.

“I am also delighted that Michael Hunt will continue as a key member of ReNeuron’s executive team in the new role of chief financial officer. I and my fellow directors look forward to working with both Olav and Michael towards ReNeuron’s future success.”

Hellebø adds: “ReNeuron has impressed me by their advanced technology, competent team and strong backing by successful biotech investors.”
