New chairman for Bayer’s Central Works Council

Oliver Zühlke has succeeded Thomas de Win as chairman at the Central Works Council of Bayer as he steps down due to health reasons.

De Win who held the position for 10 years, will also resign his other functions at Bayer by the middle of the year, including that of vice chairman and member of the supervisory board.

Zühlke (pictured) joined the firm as a chemical laboratory assistant in 1985. He has been a member at Bayer since 2007 and chairman of the Works Council in Leverkusen from 2010. In addition to his work at Bayer, Zühlke also holds a number of positions in the German Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union (IG BCE).

He adds: “I would like to thank the Central Works Council for the confidence it has placed in me. I look forward very much to my new assignment. Employees can be assured that I will make every effort to represent them and their concerns.”

Dr Marijn Dekkers, chairman of the board at Bayer, says of Zühlke’s predecessor: “I very much regret the resignation of Thomas de Win. He was always an extremely motivated and fair partner who made every effort to ensure employees’ concerns were heard and at the same time took the company’s interests into consideration. I would like to expressly thank him for everything he has done for Bayer. His decision to step down for health reasons deserves respect.”
