Merck KGaA appoints new head of pharma

Merck KGaA has appointed Stefan Oschmann head of its pharmaceuticals division Merck Serono.
He takes office on 1 January 2011 and will also have responsibility for the company’s consumer health care operations.
Stefan worked for more than 20 years at the American company Merck & Co, most recently as president of emerging markets.
He takes over from Elmar Schnee, who joined the company in 2003 – initially heading up its French Merck Santé subsidiary – and is leaving for personal reasons.
The company has also appointed Kai Beckmann to its executive board with responsibility for the newly created executive board position of human resources.
