Udit Batra is to join Merck KGaA as head of its consumer health care division on 1 September.
He moves to the company from Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, where he is currently head of global public health and market access, and has served in a range of global executive positions in healthcare for the last 15 years.
Stefan Oschmann, executive board member of Merck and responsible for its pharmaceutical business, said: “Udit has successfully led the transformation of global and local businesses and has been instrumental in executing large restructuring programs.
“Udit’s key priorities will be to define the future organisation to best support the achievement of our strategic objectives: expanding our internationalisation, particularly in emerging markets and the United States, ensuring continued growth of our strategic consumer healthcare brands and developing a promising pipeline to secure our future success.”
In his new role Udit will succeed Merck’s Peter Shotter who leaves the company at the end of 2011.
“Peter Shotter served in various executive positions during the past nine years at Merck. He was instrumental in building our strong consumer healthcare brands and ensuring an evidence-based approach to OTC products. I want to thank Peter for his contributions and commitment to the company,” said Stefan Oschmann.
