
Innovation director appointed to NHS England

NHS England has hired a new national clinical director for innovation in Professor Tony Young.
Young’s role will be to provide clinical leadership and support in delivering improved health outcomes across the five domains of the NHS outcomes framework, with a particular focus on generating economic growth through innovation.
Young is a practicing consultant Urological Surgeon at Southend University Hospital and director of Medical Innovation at Anglia Ruskin University. He will remain in his post at Anglia Ruskin during his time on secondment to NHS England and also continue as a frontline clinician at Southend University Hospital.
Dr Mike Bewick, deputy medical director for NHS England, says: “We are facing a challenging but exciting time in delivering health services that meet the needs of both current and future healthcare consumers. Tony will be a great asset in helping move this agenda forward and we are looking forward to him joining the team.”
Young adds: “It’s an honour to be appointed to this role. We’ve made great strides in transforming the medical innovation process during my time at Anglia Ruskin. I look forward to working with clinicians to help make innovation happen and bring the latest advances in technology and improvements in care pathways.”
