ICON hires Dr Steve Cutler as chief operating officer

Clinical research organisation ICON has appointed Dr Steve Cutler to the newly created position of chief operating officer (COO).

Cutler joined ICON in November 2011 as group president, Clinical Research Services. In his new role as COO he has responsibility for all of ICON’s operational units, and will also take responsibility for its sales and marketing and strategic alliance teams.

In other moves at the firm, within Cutler’s team Dr Nuala Murphy has been appointed as president of its Clinical Services unit, and Jim Miskel has been appointed executive VP and general manager of Laboratory Services.

Murphy joined ICON in 2012 as executive VP, Global Clinical Operations and Data Management, taking to the firm over 22 years’ experience within the pharma and CRO industries. 

Miskel joined ICON in November last year and will lead its newly-combined Central and Bioanalytical laboratories group. He brings a wealth of laboratory and pharma industry experience to ICON, having previously held senior positions with Harlan Laboratories, MDS Pharma Services, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and McKinsey & Company.

Commenting on the appointments, Ciaran Murray, chief executive if ICON said: “Bringing all operational units under Steve’s leadership will allow us to further enhance the support we can offer to our customers’ development programmes. I would like to congratulate Steve, Nuala and Jim on their new roles and wish them every success in the future.”
