
Fred Hassan moves to Bausch & Lomb

Pharma industry veteran Fred Hassan has been appointed chairman at eye health company Bausch & Lomb.
Hassan was previously chairman and chief executive of Schering-Plough, turning the company around before its merger with Merck last year, and prior to that he headed up Pharmacia, before it was deemed an acquisition target by Pfizer.
Earlier in his career, Hassan was president of the US operations of Wyeth and held positions of increasing importance at Novartis.
Also joining B&L is former senior vice-president and president of Schering-Plough’s Consumer Healthcare unit Brent Saunders.
Current chairman and chief executive Gerald Ostrov is retiring and will serve as consultant.
