Everdrone, a provider of autonomous drone systems for use in healthcare and emergency response, has announced the appointment of David Borkmann as Senior Medical Advisor.
Borkmann works at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden as a specialist in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, in addition to working in pre-hospital critical care. Anaesthetists and specialist nurses in the unit where Borkmann works can provide intensive care to patients in serious need outside the hospital, in order to prevent care being delayed until the patient arrives at the hospital.
Borkmann has also previously worked as an air ambulance doctor in Australia and with London’s Air Ambulance. These roles have brought him extensive knowledge of approaches to emergencies in an urban setting.
Borkmann will bring significant expertise in emergency care to his new role as Senior Medical Advisor. He will consult on the potential uses of drone technology in this area, including the delivery of emergency equipment such as defibrillators, adrenaline or bleeding control kits.
Everdrone’s goal is to discover how drones could be integrated into emergency care in a variety of geographical and organisational settings. The company is currently undergoing an expansion across Sweden and Europe.
Magnus Hallberg von Geijer, Chief Commercial Officer at Everdrone, said: “David’s unique experience working both in dense urban areas and in sparsely populated regions gives him a broad understanding of how pre-hospital care can be developed with new technology. This expertise is particularly important as Everdrone now enters its next phase and scales its solutions to additional regions and healthcare systems.”
Borkmann added: “Healthcare needs to continue evolving with new technology that works in real-world conditions. Drones can become a natural complement in the emergency care pathway when minutes make a difference.”
