Rupert Gowrley is leaving his role as joint head at MHP Health in order to start with Bupa as its UK government affairs and sustainability director.

He is currently co-head of MHP’s health practice and his newly-created role at private healthcare firm Bupa begins in April, sitting within its UK corporate affairs team.

He told Pharmafile: “Whilst it is a slight move away from pharma, I’ll still be working with pharma on some issues.”

Gowrley will lead government affairs and policy engagement across home healthcare, care services, health insurance – and also includes responsibility for driving Bupa’s sustainability agenda in the UK.

He will report to Bupa UK corporate affairs director Helen Vaughan-Jones. Gowrley led MHP’s health practice with Rachel Rowson, who will continue in the role and take over his responsibilities. MHP told PR Week that there are no plans to recruit his replacement.

Gowrley added: “Bupa approached me very recently and it was such a fantastic opportunity that I had to make a tough decision to leave somewhere I love and the fantastic team at MHP Health.”
