AstraZeneca has appointed Esra Erkal Paler to head up its worldwide media relations activities.
She will lead the company’s London-based global media relations team and will be responsible for enhancing and protecting the company’s reputation worldwide by driving media coverage and managing media-related issues.
Esra takes up her new responsibilities in April 2011 and will report to Neil McCrae, who was appointed VP of group corporate communications earlier this year.
Esra will join AstraZeneca from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the UK’s independent advertising regulator, where she is director of communications, policy and marketing, and a member of the ASA’s executive board.
In this role she has direct responsibility for reputation management, policy development and marketing, while making the case for effective self-regulation to consumers, the UK government, industry, NGOs and European Union institutions.
Prior to joining the ASA in 2008, Esra spent six years as director of corporate communications and external affairs at health and beauty multinational, L’Oreal, and prior to that she was head of corporate affairs at Unilever UK and Ireland.
Esra is a Trustee of the British Skin Foundation, the research arm of the British Association of Dermatologists.
