
Astellas takes senior head from AstraZeneca

Eric Terhaerdt has been named as the senior vice president of global development operations at Astellas Pharma.
Terhaerdt, who joins the Japanese pharma giant from AstraZeneca where he also served in a vice president capacity, will be located at Astellas’ US headquarters in Illinois.
Reporting in to Dr Bernie Zeiher who is the firmโs executive VP of global development and therapeutic lead, Terhaerdt will be tasked with establishing the direction of its drug development operations in The Netherlands, Japan and the US.
Terhaerdt spent over 20 years with AstraZeneca, serving in a variety of global leadership roles with increasing responsibility in the areas of clinical research, development, quality, strategy and performance along with scientific and technical evaluations.
“Astellas couldn’t be more pleased to have someone with the knowledge and breadth of experience that Eric has,” says Zeiher. “His diverse international experience in drug development, strategic planning and change management will help Astellas continue to address the unmet needs of our patients.”
