Allergan axes 117 jobs in Kythera buyout
pharmafile | October 15, 2015 | Appointment | | Allergan, Kythera
According to a notice filed with the state of California, Allergan will be laying off 117 employees at Kythera’s Westlake Village, California headquarters on November 30, following its purchase of the company completed October 1.
The cuts include top Kythera executives, its chief commercial officer and employees across the medical aesthetics company, from human resources and operations to R&D and manufacturing.
Merger-related layoffs are hardly uncommon, and soon after the deal was announced, Allergan said it would be cutting jobs at Kythera as it integrated the company into its own operations, so the news will not come as too great a surprise.
Although some high-level sales and marketing managers will lose their jobs, also including the VP for US sales, Allergan has said it will keep much of the sales force intact.
The Westlake job cuts follow more than 1,000 for Allergan in California over the past year, first as the company fought off a buyout by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, and then after its merger with Actavis.
