Employee benefits provider Unum UK has expanded its available modules on its Help@hand app, which aims to provide digital health and wellbeing services to employees.

The app has added various new modules, intending to help workers maintain their mental health. These modules include: bereavement counselling, financial wellbeing and physical health. The app will now provide unlimited mental health support for users seeking help with mild to moderate issues, with facilities to refer patients elsewhere for more serious problems. It also provides one-to-one nutritional support and person training options, alongside a 24/7 emotional and practical support helpline.

The additions to the app follow a trend towards digital health within employee benefits, especially in a period when access to standard-of-care mental health and wellbeing services are limited due to a lack of availability, long waiting lists, complex referral processes and an ongoing social stigma.

Unum UK’s chief executive officer, Mark Till, explained that the changes to the app aim to reflect changes to the modern workforce, as benefit providers such as Unum need to change in order to support businesses and employees.

He added: “With new and improved fully integrated services, all delivered by experts, employees and their families can access meaningful, everyday support they can count on.” The app also “puts employer admin in one place,” meaning the service is simple to provide.

“With data usage and insights, employers can use this to understand their employees better than ever.”
