The European Medicines Verification Organisation (EMVO), the body established to implement the European Falsified Medicines Directive and the Delegated Regulation, has announced the appointment of Andreas Walter as its new general manager.
Walter will become general manager of the organisation with the responsibility of protecting European patients against the threat of counterfeit medicines, following experience as project director for the falsified medicines directive and has been interim director of the EMVO since February 2015.
The EMVO is currently in the process of establishing a Europe-wide infrastructure of repositories centred on the “European Hub” which is currently operational and connected to national verification systems, which have to be established in EU member states by February 2019.
Sonia Ruiz, EMVO president, comments: “We welcome the appointment of Andreas Walter as EMVO general manager who will help the pharmaceutical industry and supply chain get the system up and running effectively to ensure access to safe medicines for European patients.”
Andreas says: “I am more than confident that EMVO stands for a successful, innovative governance model, a trusted partner for authorities and patients by building a European-wide verification system for medicines.”
