Nigel Clarke has been appointed chair-designate of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s president, Martin Astbury, said: “Nigel Clarke was central to forming the structure of the RPS as the new professional leadership body. He chaired the Independent Inquiry into the Future Professional Body for Pharmacy and then the Transitional Committee, which created the prospectus for the new RPS.
“His extensive knowledge of the profession makes him an ideal chair for the GPhC. The RPS will be playing its part in reintroducing Nigel to the world of pharmacy and ensuring that he understands our perspective on the key issues affecting pharmacists.
“I would like to pay tribute to Bob Nichols who has overseen the successful establishment of a new regulator for pharmacy. I have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Bob, he has shown integrity and clarity of purpose in his leadership of the new regulator and I look forward to developing an equally productive relationship with Nigel.”
