Cherwell Laboratories of the UK has opened a new manufacturing and warehousing facility for its microbiological media and environmental monitoring products, which are used extensively in pharmaceutical production and R&D.
The new facilities – due to open this autumn – will increase floor space at the Bicester facility by 60% and will help Cherwell “support future company growth and ensure that product stock is always rapidly available to customers, whatever the quantity required”.
The investment comes on the back of a 20% increase in export sales over the last 12 months and “seven years of sustained positive company growth”, according to Cherwell.
The new facility covers 36,000 sq. ft. and houses additional cleanroom manufacturing capacity for Cherwell’s Redipor microbiological media products, as well as larger warehousing facilities for its entire product range.
Cherwell’s Redipor range consists of prepared media for applications such as environmental monitoring, water testing, sterility testing, and operator validations. The company also sells microbial air sampling units under the SAS brand, and last year become the UK distributor for the DataTrace brand of wireless datalogging equipment for monitoring temperature, humidity and pressure, which are used in manufacturing, quality control and validation applications.
The new plant includes automated aseptic plate filling machinery, which can process over 5,000 plates per batch, but can also produce small batches of just 50 plates for selective or investigational media.
“Our ability to supply variable quantities of our prepared media products, as well as bespoke solutions … sets us apart”, commented Andy Whittard, Cherwell’s managing director.
