Sanofi-Aventis is readying communications support for two cancer drugs in its portfolio.
The pharma company has handed UK communications for the two drugs to Just Health PR, though the companies have been tight-lipped over the drugs involved.
Just would only say that one is “for second-line castrate refractory prostate cancer and the other [is] for metastatic triple negative breast cancer” – and that the new account involves Sanofi’s existing and pipeline oncology franchise.
The manufacturer’s Jevtana has recently been approved in the US to treat men with prostate cancer.
And Sanofi’s BSI-201 was tipped this year by analyst Decision Resources to have sales of $1.7 billion in the triple negative breast cancer drug market in 2018.
The report said BSI-201 could steal significant market share from Roche’s Avastin, and is expected to launch in 2012 in the US, and in Europe by 2014.
Chemotherapy agent Jevtana has been greenlit in combination with the steroid prednisone for patients with metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer (mHRPC) previously treated with a docetaxel-containing regimen.
It is the first second-line treatment proven to provide a survival benefit in mHRPC patients.
Just has already begun working on its new accounts, which are being led by senior consultant Laura Chambers, reporting to Sanofi’s communications specialist Helen Rix.
The two parties “will work closely with advocacy, patient groups and relevant media to help draw attention to the urgent, unmet clinical needs within these areas”, says a statement from Just.
Meanwhile, Just has also hired a new senior consultant, Helen Laurence, who has joined after a year working in the Alzheimer’s Society’s press office. Prior to this she spent five years in agency.
Just has also taken on Ashley Lewis from MS&L Group and Gemma Taylor from Hill & Knowlton, both joining as consultants. Melanie Bickers has also joined Just as a junior consultant and Andy Patten has been brought in as office manager.
