The CIPR Health & Medical Group will debate the new prescribing powers proposed for nurses and pharmacists at a special meeting in January.

The meeting will be open to healthcare PR and communications practitioners and seeks to answer the question: 'Will new prescribers make a real difference to healthcare provision?'.

A near complete formulary and full prescribing powers are proposed for some nurses and pharmacists and the change is expected to come into effect in the Spring.

Attendees at the debate will be able to question a panel of speakers that includes the RCN's special advisor on nurse prescribing Matt Griffiths, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain's director of practice and quality improvement David Pruce and chairman of the BMA's GPs committee Dr Hamish Meldrum.

The event takes place at  The National Patient Safety Agency, 4-8 Maple Street at 6.00pm on Thursday 19 January 2006.

Tickets for the event cost £30 for CIPR members and £60 for non-members. To reserve your place, email: gill@spinkconsumer.com and send your cheque (made payable to the CIPR) to CIPR c/o Spink Consumer Relations, East Barn, Grange Farm, Ardingly Road, Lindfield, RH16 2QY.
