AstraZeneca has assembled a team of leading executives to head up a new restructured UK marketing team.

The team has been developed as part of AstraZeneca's 'Achieving & Inspiring Excellence' (AIM) project and will lead the company's marketing strategy, including preparations for the launch of blockbuster Crestor, due to be approved in early 2003.

A combination of internal and external candidates has been appointed as heads of the department at the newly structured marketing directorate.

Jig Kang has been promoted internally to become Head of Commercial Strategy while Lisa Anson has been promoted to Head of Primary Care. Graham Smith will continue as Head of Logistics and Distribution.

Meanwhile, Kevin Karwath, currently Director of Managed Care Promotions for AstraZeneca in the US, has been appointed Head of Marketing Excellence.

Phil Ashman has been recruited from his current post as head of CNS Sales and Marketing at Sanofi-Synthlabo to become AstraZeneca's new Head of Specialist Care.

Rob Wood, Marketing Director at AstraZeneca, said: "I am delighted to welcome Kevin and Phil on board. We've now got a really strong team in place to support our excellent pipeline and to deliver our overall vision of Intelligent and Emotional Marketing".
