The UK government has stated that Covaxin is to be added to its list of approved COVID-19 vaccines for international travelers from 22 November.

This means that those who have received the jab by Bharat Biotech will not have to self-isolate after arrival in England. The move follows WHO’s Emergency Use Listing for Covaxin, which is the second most used formula in India.

Alex Ellis, British High Commissioner to India, made the announcement on Twitter, stating: “More good news for Indian travelers to UK. From 4 am on November 22, travelers fully vaccinated with a COVID19 vaccine recognized by the WHO for the emergency use list, including Covaxin, will not have to self-isolate; so join those who are fully vaccinated with Covishield.”

The government has also simplified travel rules for under-18s, who will be exempt from self-isolation requirements on arrival, day-eight testing and pre-departure testing. Those under the age of 18 will only be required to take one post-arrival test, and a confirmatory free PCR test if they test positive. Those who have had COVID-19 and have only had one dose of a two-dose vaccine must follow the same rules as unvaccinated arrivals.

“As we continue to recover from the pandemic and expand our recognition of international vaccines, today’s announcements mark the next step in our restart of international travel,” said UK Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps.

The UK government will also recognize Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines as approved COVID vaccines for inbound travelers from November 22.
