Have you perfected the work/life balance?

Published on 03/12/04 at 11:51am

Perfecting the balance between work and the rest of life is increasingly a concern for employees and employers - based on the maxim that a happy worker is a productive worker.

So, is the UK pharmaceutical industry and its workers managing to juggle these demands, or do people feel stressed out and overstretched?

The answers to these questions will be revealed in the New Year when the final results of the Pharmafocus and InPharm Career Survey are published but you can still add your opinion and enter the prize draw to win a mini iPod.

Hundreds of people from all parts of the UK industry have already voted in our comprehensive survey, which covers everything from the pharma company they most admire, to whether or not the NHS can become a world class healthcare system and their feelings about their career and work/life balance.

We can reveal that a healthy 15% of voters said they were 'very satisfied' with their current work/life balance but the most decisive split is between those who claimed to be 'fairly satisfied' and those who said they were 'fairly dissatisfied'. You'll have to wait until our next issue to find out which way the final voting went.

Elsewhere in our survey, so far over one in five respondents who say they are looking for a new job cite personal/family reasons as one of the deciding factors. 'Seeking less stress' is mentioned by around half this number but our survey shows people base this decision on a complex mix of factors, with no single issue cited overwhelmingly.

Vote now by visiting and clicking on the banner at the top of the home page. Voters can enter our prize draw, with an iPod for the winner and champagne for 25 runners-up.
