Why use a specialised mother-tongue translator?

Published date:

“Translation is that which transforms everything so that nothing changes.”
Günter Grass

The art of a good translation is to succeed in getting the original message, including the nuances and subtleties, across fully and accurately despite the linguistic and cultural barriers that may stand between the original writer and the intended reader.

In order to do this, the translator must have first hand knowledge and experience of both the source and, in particular, the target language and culture. Only a native, mother-tongue speaker of the target language can do this. It is also important, particularly in specialist areas such as pharmaceutical, technical or legal, that the translator have in-depth knowledge of the subject area and keeps up to date with regulatory and industry developments.

First Edition Translations only ever uses native mother-tongue translators and selects them according to their language skills, qualifications and expertise.
