ABPI appoints Roche's Paul Catchpole

Published on: 20/04/10

UK industry association the ABPI has appointed Paul Catchpole as director of value and access.

He will join the association on 26 April and moves there from Roche UK, where he was most recently healthcare management director.

Paul, who will be based at the ABPI’s Whitehall offices, said: “The unprecedented economic pressures facing our healthcare system along with potential political changes means that the need has never been greater for the industry to be clear about all aspects of value that our medicines bring to patients and the NHS and how these can be evaluated.

“Providing greater and faster access for patients also remains a key challenge and an opportunity where innovative medicines can drive further quality and productivity improvements through strong partnership working with NHS organisations.”

Paul holds a PhD in healthcare information systems and has spent 26 years working in healthcare.

He has been an active member of various ABPI working and was involved in the last two PPRS negotiations, influencing the design of patient access and flexible pricing schemes.

He began his career as a researcher and held a number of management posts in the NHS. He then worked for ten years on a wide range of UK and international management consultancy assignments at PriceWaterhouseCoopers across health, local government and pharmaceuticals.

In his most recent role at Roche, he spent the last 12 years leading national reimbursement, health economics, strategic pricing, strategic funding and capacity and market access groups working with NHS payers.
