Published on: 07/12/17

Fondation Ipsen has announced its appointment of Dr James A Levine as its new President. The organisation was set up by French pharmaceutical firm Ipsen in 1983 “to contribute to the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge by fostering interaction between scientists and clinicians”.

Dr Levine boasts a rich background: he is the Dean's Distinguished Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, the Regents Professor at Umea University in Sweden, and holds five tenured professorships at Arizona State University. He is also the Co-Director of Obesity Solutions, has been invited to share his expertise at the United Nations and the President’s Cancer Panel, and has authored more than 120 scientific papers, as well as novels, for which he has won literary awards. Dr Levine currently serves as Professor of Endocrinology and Nutrition Research at Arizona’s Mayo Clinic.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr Levine as the new President of the Fondation Ipsen,” said David Meek, CEO of Ipsen. “I am convinced that Dr Levine’s medical background as well as his extensive international experience will propel the Fondation IPSEN to a new era of scientific discovery and knowledge sharing.”

Dr Levine himself commented: “I am delighted to accept the Presidency of the Fondation IPSEN which plays an important role in the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Having spent my career in public health, this represents a significant opportunity to further promote research and academic interconnections for the advancement of science.”
